What do I need to know about my Pool Filter?
Understanding your pool filter is crucial for maintaining clean and safe swimming water. Lean how to optimize its filtration performance and prolong its lifespan.
One Minute Read Summary
•A pool filter is essential. It uses pumps to extract water, trapping dirt and debris in its filtration system before returning the clean liquid back into the pool via jets located on walls.
•Pool Filters are essential as they protect you from harmful bacteria and other unwanted guests; without one algae & mold will create an environment nobody wants to attend while unfiltered skin cells threaten germs!
•Pool filters should be cleaned regularly to ensure proper filtration performance. Cartridge filters need cleaning once a month, sand filters require backwashing at least once a month, D.E filter needs to be cleaned out once a month or if the pressure is higher than normal and Quad Filter cartridges should be cleaned 3-4 times a year depending on use.
•Run the pool filter for 8-10 hours daily for crystal clear water; if still struggling with clarity run longer until everything is in perfect balance. Give chemicals an extra boost by turning on the filter when adding them to the mix
•Check the pressure gauge of your pool filter, look up what "normal" pressure readings should be for your particular model, and watch out for high readings which usually start at 5 or more psi above normal. Also when vacuuming, check the jets or returns to make sure clear water is coming out - if it’s cloudy then all that yucky debris sucked up by the vacuum may not be getting filtered and could end up in the pool.

What is a Pool Filter?
A pool filter is an essential component of any swimming pool system, serving as the primary mechanism for keeping the water clean and safe for swimming. It operates by using a pump to draw water from the pool and passing it through a filtration system. Within this system, the filter traps and removes dirt, leaves, insects, and other debris, ensuring that the water remains clear and free of contaminants. Once filtered, the clean water is then returned to the pool through specialized jets located on the pool walls. In essence, a pool filter acts as a crucial barrier, effectively purifying the water and maintaining optimal water quality. Here is an article on How does a Pool work? Simple explanation!

How often does my Pool Filter need Deep Cleaning maintenance or replacements?
Cartridge Filter: The cartridge should be replaced at least once every 1-2 years depending on the use

Here’s a guide to cleaning every type of filter
How long should I run my Pool Filter per day?
You should run the filter for 8 to 10 hours a day for crystal-clear water! If you're struggling to reach clarity despite running it that long, go longer and keep going until everything is back in perfect balance. For best results clean the filter
Don't forget: Give chemicals an extra boost by turning on the filter when adding them into the mix.
How do I know if my pool filter is working properly or needs to be cleaned?
Make sure to check its pressure gauge on a daily basis - any sudden changes in readings could mean it’s clogged. Just look up what "normal" pressure readings should be for your particular model, and watch out for high readings which usually start at 5 or more psi above normal.
